Hello - I've got a number of sites that use the API that allow users to find items on eBay in unusual ways and I feel that a sniping site would benefit my users.
It looks like the Trading API PlaceOffer call is the one to use but I see that eBay does not permit the development of snipers using the API:
The existing sniping services are directly manipulating the eBay website via 'scraping' techniques. That's why they ask for your UserID and password rather than routing you through the eBay signin.

But that's against the ToS. If you're right I can think of at least one big eBay affiliate that offers a whole host of tools via the API and a sniper tool side by side. In fact, having used it myself I know that they drop cookies by forcing a window to open via an affiliate link.
Yet eBay seem to turn a blind eye ?

I think what happens is that developers start with a squeaky-clean submission in order to display the 'compatible application' logo and increase their call limit.
After that, they can do anything they want. If they gain enough following, they can then use their userbase as leverage against eBay. Look what Auctiva gets away with. Notice there was no comment from eBay.
